Vehicle Crime Prevention & Intelligence
Digitpol's has developed a custom ANPR solution for vehicle crime prevention and recovery. The system is a revolution in ANPR technology, this modern system uses rapid image processing layered with AI detection and all data is view-able remotely in real time. The project was launched in The Netherlands in August 2018 as a pilot and is now developed and available to Law Enforcement, Insurance & Leasing firms.
The ANPR Project
The problem of Stolen Motor Vehicles and Plant Machinery remains across Europe. In 2018 Digitpol took the initiative to develop a modern and unique prevention tool, the ANPR project. The concept allows for cameras to send data to a databases for cross reference, the check on licence plates or signage takes approximately 400ms and the driver is alerted instantly. When a positive match of a stolen object is identified, the command center also sees the instant data such as licence plate, picture and the time. Action is then taken by authorities to recover the stolen object. Digitpol works in cooperation with a Public-Partnership.
The German Bundeskriminalamt uses the 2011 figures provided by the German association of insurance companies for the total economic damage on stolen motor vehicles: almost 260 million Euros. This amount represents only stolen vehicles (and not, for example, vehicles which are lost through fraud). The total economic damage is an increase of almost 1% compared to 2010 and a 19% increase compared to the average total amount of the previous 5 years. Moreover, the average individual claim was higher. This could be caused by an increased market value of the average car stolen or an indication of a trend in which motor vehicles with a higher value are targeted.
Research & Development
Vehicle crime is a highly organized criminal activity affecting all regions of the whole world and with clear links to organized crime and terrorism. Vehicles are not only stolen for their entire functionality, vehicles are also trafficked to finance other crimes. They can also be used as bomb carriers or in the perpetration of other crimes. At the end of December 2015 7.4 million records of reported stolen motor vehicles were registered globally. The gaps in detection and recovery remain due to open borders therefore Digitpol takes the initiative to develop a solution to assist with prevention and recovery of Stolen Vehicles.
We deployed from the Netherlands to the Balkans in specialised vehicles equipped with custom ANPR system. Vehicle plates are checked in 400ms and results are viewable in real-time from the command team Netherlands
- 2018 - Our teams conducted checks on highways and borders across Europe checking suspected vehicles and cargo. The ANPR system alerts the driver with results in 400ms.
- 2019 - We aim to expand the number of ANPR cameras into key trafficking routes and expand the number of operations.
- We will provide support to joint-action Law Enforcement controls across Europe.
