Japan-based Cybersecurity firm Trend Micro has revealed that its Cyber Threat report that at least 8 billion cyber threats were blocked in the first two months of the year 2020. And the enterprise security offering software company has highlighted in its report that most of the attacks were related to Ransomware and Business Email Compromise(BEC).

Trend Micro report illustrates that the hackers are using email as the most popular attack vector as it was used in 90% of threats launched over the period.

From Jan to Feb 2020, Trend Micro tracked down an increase of 24.3% in BEC attempts with hackers using CEO fraud, bogus invoices and various subject-lines to trap their prey.

CEO Fraud was most commonly detected in countries like Australia, the UK, and the US over the first two months this year. As the said fraud accounted for 34 percent in the US, 11 percent in Australia and 13 percent in the UK.

Security Researchers say that March and April this year will witness a surge in cyber attacks as most of the people across the world are working from home in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Coming to the surge in ransomware infections in Feb, Trend Micro claims that its software used by its users across the world have detected more than two million ransomware infections – a rise by 20.2 percent from the previous month.

What’s surprising in this whole detection is the fact that China topped the list of countries that were targeted the most with ransomware in the first two months of this year. Over 31 percent of infections were discovered from the said nation in January and February witnessed a surge by 10 percent i.e 43 percent. Followed by the United States with 16 percent and 13 percent on a respective note.
